Revell 1/12 Scale Gemini Astronaut

One of the oddities of my space model collection is the 1/12 scale Gemini Astronaut in Space kit.
Essentially this kit is a scaled-down version of Revell's large 1/6 scale subject. What I never understood was why Revell never produced this kit in 1/24 to go with their big Gemini. It appears that whatever heads in the development office at Revell in the 1960's never considered the idea of continuity....

There were four space walks performed during the Gemini program (Gemini 4, 9, 10, 11, and 12.) Each EVA suit was slightly different. The Revell kit is closer to the first American EVA by Astronaut Ed White in 1965.

I used a different base support rather than the over-simplified Gemini hatch from the kit.

All in all this kit is fairly easy to construct and makes a nice display model.
Below is the box art for Revell's larger 1/6 scale version- almost an exact duplicate of the smaller one!

New Ware Models from the Czech Republic sells a beautiful 1/24 set of spacewalkers- one American the other Russian.Below is a link to that sight:

Indycals 1/48 Scale Mercury and Gemini Decal Sets
I recently acquired a newly released set of decals for the Revell 1/48 Mercury and Gemini kit.
These decals are produced by Indycals out of Parker, Colorado (see link below!)
What attracted me to these sets were the inclusion of limited interior decals of control and side panels.

A separate sheet for the thermal strips for the Gemini retro and service modules
Indycals also sells a separate decal sheet of the Gemini thermal strips for the adaptor modules.
Both sheets appear to be printed by a ALP's printer and require precise cutting around each decal.

Indycal's had my sets to mailbox in short order. I will have a report on their application to models in a later installment of the Ohio Valley Spaceport!

With recent improvements in 3D printing technology more and more garage companies are beginning to offer a wide range of highly detailed spacecraft model parts. Below are a list of current companies offering space model parts.

That's it for this installment!
